the Monument, Central London

February 2009

GM Recruitment is honoured to have supplied temporary workers to the recent restoration of the Monument in Central London. The 202ft column which indecently is the tallest freestanding stone column in the world reopened yesterday (16th February 2009) after 18 months of restoration work. GM Recruitment has supported the main contractor for the duration of the restoration with temporary staff and has helped the site team deliver the project both efficiently and to deadlines.

GM Recruitment are no strangers to this type of restoration work having also supplied temporary site staff to the restoration of Nelsons Column during 2006. George Willis, Managing Director commented that “we have been proud to have supported the restoration teams at both these projects, it just goes to show that our temporary site staff have the skills and dexterity required to work on such high profile and technical contracts.”

World Society for the Protection of Animals

May 2008

gm recruitment have been supporting the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in the construction of a much needed bear sanctuary in Romania.

The sanctuary will provide a home for European brown bears who have previously been kept in caged and cramped conditions. WSPA works with local animal welfare group, Milioane de Prieteni, on this project.

When Romania joined the EU, increased standards of animal welfare meant that many of the country’s zoos did not meet EU requirements. Whilst Romanian law protects bears from mistreatment, with nowhere to house them when confiscated, the laws have been impossible to enforce until now. 29 bears are already housed at the Sanctuary but many more await the completion of the second enclosure in August. Due to the size of the sanctuary and complexity of security measures, both parties realised that they needed some help and expertise with the construction.

gm
recruitment provided experienced Project Manager Paul Braithwaite to keep the construction on track. Since arriving in Romania Paul has been key in working with the local group and builders to manage the construction, ensure timeframes are met and costs are kept under control.

George Willis, Managing Director of
gm recruitment comments “Finding talented people for construction projects is something we do all the time but it has given us particular pleasure to have assisted in such an interesting and worthwhile scheme. It has been very rewarding to have found the person that WSPA needed for the project from the initial brief and seen him become such an essential part of their team”.

Dave Eastham, WSPA’s Head of Wildlife says “We are very grateful to
gm
recruitment for their support with this project and delighted to welcome Paul as part of team to help us complete this much needed Sanctuary. By the end of the year we hope that up to 50 bears will be rescued and able to roam free in the Forest enclosures that Paul has helped to complete.”

November 2007

Construction recruitment specialist, gm recruitment, waves goodbye to possibly the industry’s longest serving recruiter. Senior consultant Paul Barnes is retiring after giving 35 years service to the recruitment industry.

Paul started his career in recruitment back in 1972, at a time when construction recruitment was in its very infancy. Paul enjoyed a long and successful career as a consultant at two other major agencies before joining gm recruitment in January 2005. Paul joined gm recruitment as a senior consultant and over the past 2 years has helped move the company from its small beginnings to its current success and maturity.

Paul leaves with fond memories of both past colleagues and clients, some of which he has known for almost all of his recruitment life! Managing Director George Willis said, “Paul has been an outstanding example to us all in this industry. He has contributed immensely to this company and my colleagues and I will miss his hard work, dedication and integrity. His retirement is well deserved and we wish him a long and happy one. ”
